To escape the South Australian chilly wintry weather we once again headed up the track towards Darwin in our caravan. Now although this was not a so called "Birding Safari" I did manage to sneak off for an hour or so to see if I could photograph a bird sighting to add to my list.

On this trip though I was somewhat surprised to find the Northern Territory so dry and void of the normal lush green covering that I have always been used to seeing. You knew things were different when you wound down the car window and there was no tropical smell that is the NT, but there was the smell of grass fires every day.

When we were up this way 15 months ago "Fog Dam" was a mass of wetland and the bird life was plentiful, this visit the place was very dry and only one small pocket of a pond was left and sighting a bird was difficult.

However, the visit to the Northern Territory is always enjoyable especially when I have managed a few new birds to add to my list.

To be continued.
